HOW LONG THE THE BANKRUPTCY PROCESS TAKE?

In a
Chapter 7
bankruptcy, the bankruptcy court typically grants the Chapter 7 discharge approximately four months after the initial filing date of the bankruptcy documents.  Some cases may take longer.

In a Chapter 13 cases, the bankruptcy court generally grants the Chapter 13 discharge as soon as practicable after the debtor completes all payments under the plan.  A Chapter 13 plan may provide for payments to be made over three to five years.

This article does not discuss Chapter 9 (municipalities), Chapter 11 (reorganization), and 12 (family farmer) bankruptcies.
